Updates from the SIG Executive

1. ANZCA has recommenced work on the perioperative medicine qualification after a brief halt due to COVID-19. Our SIG continues to liaise with the International Board of Perioperative Medicine, Monash University and University College London (UCL) to deliver joint perioperative medicine offerings. The first Monash/UCL short course in Perioperative Medicine concluded on 30 October, which drew 130 registrants from 10 different countries, including the developing world.

2. We are pleased to report that the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM) is establishing a perioperative medicine SIG, that will be chaired by Professor Jacqueline Close. The aim of the ANZSGM PoM SIG is to develop focus working groups, provide support for geriatric trainees interested in perioperative care, incorporate perioperative care in the curriculum, and create opportunities for geriatricians and trainees to participate in perioperative research.

3. Last but not least, planning for the 2021 Perioperative Medicine SIG meeting is underway. The meeting will be held at the Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach from 12-14 August 2021. Registrations will be open around March 2021. Stay tuned!
