OBJECTIVE

As its name suggests, the History of Anaesthesia Special Interest Group is primarily concerned with researching and presenting the history of anaesthesia.

ACTIVITIES
Members of the History of Anaesthesia SIG regularly chair sessions at ASA and ANZCA events, recent topics of interest include "Did surgeons pioneer neuroanaesthesia?", presented by Dr Jean Horton, "Anaesthesia in Hong Kong", by Dr Jean Allison, and "Postoperative Mortality in the 20th Century", by Professor Ross Holland.
In addition, members of the History of Anaesthesia SIG contribute to the ASA's Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Journal's History Supplement, which is an annual publication.
The History of Anaesthesia SIG is administered by the ASA. The ASA offices are home to the Richard Bailey Library and Harry Daly Museum. Museum Curator, Dr Birgit Heilmann, and Librarian, Dr Peter Stanbury, welcome visitors.
EVENTS
International Symposium on the History of Anaesthesia 2013
The History of Anaesthesia SIG is proud to announce that Sydney will be the venue of the next International Symposium on the History of Anaesthesia (ISHA) meeting. Members of the HA SIG are busy preparing for this major event which will take place at the campus of the University of Sydney. A satellite meeting is also scheduled for Melbourne.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership will be of two types:
• Members: Fellows of ANZCA, or Ordinary Members of the ASA or NZSA who have a special interest in (HA SIG) anaesthesia.
• Associate members: People with a special interest in (HA SIG) anaesthesia who are not entitled to be full members. They may include Associate Members of the ASA or NZSA, registered Trainees of ANZCA, allied health professionals or members of other related professional organisations.
Associate Members may only be admitted to membership after nomination by two full members of the SIG and approval by majority at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the SIG.
